  • Scope and Content
The origin of this farm is apparently to be traced in the farm called Hydes, including thirty acres, obtained by Thomas Martin in 1637 under his marriage settlement. The acreage was much increased by subsequent purchases (see BW418-21, BW452-508). Its name is derived from Thomas Baskerfield who purchased it in 1764 (BW550). Contain many field names.
  • Archival history
Found tied up in two large bundles, containing the ancient deeds (nos.418-543) and the modern deeds (nos. 544-563) respectively. The ancient deeds were neatly tied up in small bundles, each corresponding with one of the many constituent properties of which Thomas Martin's (senior and junior) farm was gradually formed by purchases; these small groups are all abstracted in BW509, and they have been arranged in accordance with this abstract. It does not include however nos. 510-543, but abstracts a few now not extant in this collection. The deeds thus abstracted in detail in BW509 have therefore been catalogued briefly.
