- Scope and ContentExecutors.: 'trusty friends' Wm. Farrer of Inner Temple, London esq.,John Carter of Kempston esq. and Wm. Aspin of Felmersham, esq. To be buried in chancel of Wooton church. To wife Dame Doro. all jewels, and dressing plate which she bought at marriage; best coach and 4 coach-horses with harness, 2 saddle horses and their furniture, half the hay, oats and straw. Recites assignment AD2645. Sir Robert and Phillip Cotton are also possessed of certain lands in Wootton (part of Dame Alice's jointure). All real estate whatsoever, inherited including property in Southill, close of pasture in Wooton lying near the mansion house there late purchased of Mr. Wm. Boteler and lands purchased of Tho. Barker, to executors in trust, by sale of premises in Southill and elsewhere if necessary, to pay first all debts etc., then legacies, then to purchase lands in Wooton 'to enlarge my estate there'; remainder of lands to use of son Humphrey and heirs. Guardianship and education of son Humphrey to wife so long as she remains a widow, and executors 'earnestly entreating them to be strict in his learning and education and I desire he may be sent to school either to Eton or Winchester (but not to Westminster or in or near London) and may have liberty to travel beyond the seas if he desires it... he shall continue with his mother if a widow and be by her educated when not at school' To wife £150 for mourning for self and son. To brother in law Sir John Cope and wife, sister Cope, and sister Frances Monoux, mother Dame Alice, uncle Lewis Monoux, cousin Jon. Hooker clerk and wife, Mr. Colling, minister of Wooton, Robert Courtman 'my physician', John Tuffnayle gent., £19 apiece for mourning. To all servants for mourning, £6. Servants Fra. Bumstead and Jos. Lancaster £20 each, housemaid Sus. Charnelhouse £10, besides sums for mourning. To executors 50 guineas apiece and £10 for mourning. To wife £300 until she can get rents of her jointure. Rings to executors, Sir Tho. Alston, Sir Pinsent Charnock, Sir Wm. Gostwick, Sir Hen Bombray barts., Sir John Cope kt., brother in law, Wm. Hillersden esq., Wm Beecher esq., Ric. Orlebar esq., Paradine Livesey esq., father-in-law Wm.Harvey esq. and his 2 sons 'my friend' Col. Cope, uncle Monoux, cousin Hooker, Dr. Courtman, Robt. Bell esq., Mr. Fra. Brace sr. and nephew Fra. Brace jr., John Peck, linendraper, Hen. Lowen innkeeper, Mr. Colling, John Harvey of Thurleigh esq. 'if at my funeral', John Harvey of Ickwell esq., Sir Steph. Langham kt and Math. Lewis esq., 'and as many more as my exors. shall think fit'. To exors. all advowsons etc. of Sandy and Gonalston, hosp. of Broadbusk in trust, as soon as Sandy is vacant to present it to Geo. Farrell clerk, formerly of Hart Hall, Oxford, and after his decease to Jon. Hooker son of present rector, or such person as he shall appoint; also to present such person as Hooker sr. shall direct to Gonalston and Broadbusk. Trustees are to meet 'as often as they shall think requisite to adjust the accounts relating to my estate'; they are to appoint 'some understanding person skilled in accounts' to manage accounts and collect rents, during sons minority; recommends Fra.
