Letter to Hester Wade-Gery from her mother Mary Gery of Bushmead, nee Bell

"My dear Hesters kind Letter gave us all great pleasure to hear of the Health and Happiness of our Friends at Newark, & I think myself doubly obliged to you for it at a time when you had such a Variety of Engagements upon your hands. I should have returned thanks before now, but waited in hopes of having accompanied by a Basket of game. which your Dear Father is extremely anxious to send Mr. Wade Gery, as he thinks it will be more acceptable when you expect Company, but there is such a great scarcity that though the Servants have been cut everyday in pursuit of Game, we find great difficulty in procuring it". Shall send in basket a parcel for my eldest daughter received from lady Cullum by Mr. Rix. All have colds. Mr. Gery increased his by attending a public meeting at Huntingdon, of noblemen and gentleman anxious to show their loyalty to the King. Your dear sisters good and punctual in writing. Dr. Alvey and Mr. Park have paid a visit - said it was an Act of Charity now we was left alone. Mr. Cooper of Thurleigh called. Thinks he has put his arm out. Marriage of Miss Jenny Payne to Mr. Booth of Glendan Hall. Sir Gillies and Lady Payne setting off for Tempsford Hall when Mr. Payne and Mr. Palmer came to make a morning visit. Mrs. Monoux is better, but was much affected and hurt by the death of Mrs. Northmore, but Mr Northmore and the little boy not mentioned. Had a letter from Cousin Skevington, who would have liked to see you and Miss Wade at Kempston. "Pray my Dear Hester, has Mr Wade Gery paid the Two Pounds Nine Shillings to Mr. Barber the Gun Smith at Newark for your Fathers Blunderbuss ?" Mrs. Gery and Mr. Gery unite in Love.
