- Scope and Content‘Sunday Morning’ …Having just received yours would just reply that I thought Lissie wrote to you to tell you Jethro was not coming. He arrived home quite safely Friday Evening. I am very sorry you should be so disappointed. I must now tell you the sad news. Poor Mrs. Newton died on Friday afternoon. Her Father called here yesterday to tell me; he is feeling it dreadfully. I was not at home; Mrs. Coleman saw him. I wrote to them last Evening a letter of sympathy. I have not heard from your Uncle Goff yet so can say nothing decisive about coming. Am very sorry dear Hugh is not much better; you do not say any thing about yourself. Have not time to say more. With kindest love to you both believe me your ever Affectionate Mamma…. You have forgotten my birthday it seems.
