    Just returned from walk with Charles, visiting "the varmine traps set for the special accomodation of mag-pies which he has just now a paricular dislike...one poor rabbit was tied to the top of a tree, a most natural place for a magpie to look for a rabbit..." Mr. Cardel who married Mr. Russel's sister has has been staying at Rectory. Met Mr. and Mrs. Sharman who dined at Rectory on Tuesday, "she was ages ago Irene Pearce of Picts Hill..." Mr. Russel has just returned from Olney and tells of attempted marriage between Miss Talbot, "a lady likely to be posessed of a good deal of money" and Mr. Asprey jnr. who "has long been in love with the lady, or the money, but most likely the latter as the former possesses no independant attractions" ..."and they went to church very early on Tuesday morning to be married but not going with the decorations suitable to such occasions Mr. Fenn feared all was not quite right & being a person of tender consciense & scrupulous withall, thought he had better be quite sure all was right before he commenced. So he posted to the lady's father who no sooner had an idea of what was going forward, than he seized poor Mr. Fenn & locked him up till after twelve o'clock" Charles, fath. and writer went to ? yesterday but Mr. Hawkesley was at Rushden. Has had long letter from Miss Burgon and Charles had one from John. Mrs. Praed? is to be married soon to Capt. Hoare, "his character...is like Pilate's, I hear,- but being rather deaf, very silent, & a widower with three children I should think he is not a great treasure" Mr. John Hawkesley admired Henry's verses. Miss Talbot eloped with Mr. Asprey on Saturday morning. "They have begun Archery at Pavenham, we intend to begin very soon and will invite Mr. and Mrs. Jervoise. Mr. Powell is to live at Charlton. People have just arrived from Stagsden. Thanks Mr. Steventon for thinking of sending her a plant but thinks journey would be too long for it.
