  • Scope and Content
Eliza is so sorry she cannot accept Theresa's invitation but it is not possible in Maria's present condition. Mrs Alston thinks mother will not be needed until end of January. Expecting arrival of Aunt Aislabie who is coming to see Mrs Jessard. "Mrs Jessard ... does not think it proper to go into public yet as from what I can understand it was a match more from convenience than affection with a hope as he was much older than herself she should soon get rid of him but in this she has been disappointed having been his nurse seventeen years..." Mrs Paine is pleased to carry out Theresa's commissions and send them by Mrs Orlebar. Mention bracelets given to Theresa by Maria which were left at Clifton, and other items. Edgecombe called on her way back from London. Went to Orlebar's last evening and were introduced to Alstons but disappointed in Eliza, "I expected to see much more beauty and lovliness..." Enjoyed ball and danced with the ""charming Mr Bradshaw". Goes to concert tomorrow night to hear the divine Morelli.
