  • Scope and Content
Have attended at Biggleswade to prepare accounts of year’s trading. Found that business had transferred by deed taking effect from 1 January 1893 from the executors to Messrs W J & C J Pope trading as Pope Brothers. No stock take had taken place nor the books closed at the time of the transfer. Encloses balance sheet A for business as carried on by Pope’s executors but made up to 30th June 1893 and balance sheet B showing Pope Brothers position on 1st July 1893. Gives details of liabilities, assets etc. and says ‘We think it our duty to place before the family what the prospects are of paying the annual interest on the £7500 now for the first time appearing as a liability… and the principal at the end of ten years…in conclusion we are of opinion that the position is an extremely serious one and requires the immediate and careful re-consideration of all the parties interested.’
