Lease: (1) Richard Whitton of Wicken, Northamptonshire, lacebuyer (2) Corporation of Bedford. Ancient building commonly called the Chapel of Herne late used by the said town for one of the courts ... of assizes abutting on the free school ground and house in the west, and a passage to the house late of Thomas Margetts, gentleman, on the east, ground of the free school on the south and north. From Michaelmas next for 21 years at 40/- [40 shillings] a year. (1) agrees to set and put the said ancient chapel with all needfull and necessary repairs as to tiling before Michaelmas next. Saved harmless from the original lessors and the Prebendaries of the prebends of Bedford major or minor of Lincoln.
