  • Title
    Parish Plan Steering Committee files.
  • Admin/biog history
At the time of these files’ creation, central government (via the Countryside Agency) were promoting the creation of parish plans as a means for citizens and local authorities to have a say in shaping the future of their communities. All aspects of life in the community were to be considered-- roads, pastimes and recreation, amenities, public transport, health, the natural and the built environment, landscape and heritage, schools, population growth, housing, employment for current and future generations, etc. Strictly speaking, these are not papers of the Parish Council of Toddington, as it was not necessary to be a parish officer in order to be on the committees and involved in the plan. However, the Plan process was instigated by, and for the most part was a function of, the Parish Council. The timeline ran roughly as follows: launch of project in October 2003 and Steering Committee formed in November 2003; Countryside Agency grant to fund the project approved in December 2003; initial consultation exercises (including brief surveys, suggestion boxes, a drop-in day, display and materials at the church and school fêtes) from around January – July 2004 and working groups formed to work on the issues raised from the initial consultation from c. April 2004 onwards; the main questionnaire distributed to all in the civil parish in c. Sept. 2004; evaluation of survey and draft parish plan from c. Dec. 2004 – Jan. 2005, final Parish Plan drawn up c. April/May 2005; agreeing and commencing ‘action plans’ from c. November 2005. See PC Toddington 37/1 for the published copy of the Toddington Parish Plan (2005).
