    Jn Crabb of Hitchin to Overseers of Dunstable "I should be exceeding sorry to bring an inhabitant into your parish, but the character I heard of him is his own. thought he wouldnt be disagreeable. if he cant get a Certificate shall have no objection of paying the taxes for him, hope his Conduct will merit your favour, if not will change him for one that you approve of ..." 1711 [?]. Thos Drake, vestry clerk of St. Margaret's work-house, Westminster to the Overseers of Dunstable concerning Eliz Redfane & her son who "requests a certificate to bring with her to your parish, but as no Certificates are ever given by this Parish, it could not be compiled with"1790. Jn Hawe, overseer of Redbourn to the Overseers of Dunstable. "It is now a considerable time since I heard anything from you concerning the debt incurred by Chas Horn to this parish, when he had the misfortune to be run over by a coach in July last".
