  • Scope and Content
Wing's account book - includes expenses at the various audits; particular occasions, i.e. Oakley Enclosure; to meet Mr Salmon to inspect buildings; Sept 1803 payment of "expenses of Mr Adam [Chief Steward from London], Mr Lock, Mr Platt [Land Steward of the Woburn District], Self, etc. at Eaton Bedford &c. on Mr Adam's view of his Grace's different Estates North of Bedford &c." and further payment for his own expenses from Thorney to Eaton, Bedford and Woburn Abbey and back to Thorney. [Adam was appalled at the overspending on the estate and called for drastic economies and it would appear that he could see it would be far less costly for Edward Platt to be Land Steward for both the Woburn and "Bedfordshire" Estates and these two districts were combined from 1804 under him.
