Letter from F W Ashpitel, Ivanhoe, Guildford, to Miss Brooks ‘My Dear Kate, I don’t understand how any doubt about the ownership of the iron room can have arisen as Mr Chaudler was instructed to convey it absolutely to you. Anyway the enclosed formal letter should settle the point. I have run over to see the Test match – have so far spent two days at the Oval. It is a great match. Saturday or Monday I go to Plymouth to see Maud & then back to Jersey. You will find it hard I expect to replace Mr Petley. There seems to be a scarcity of men willing to take small country livings with little pay. I hoped to go to stay this winter but Maggie is still under strict diet and hotels are out of the question…’
