"Who saith that he is acquainted with John Pateman now in custody on a charge of having stolen a Hat, Tea Caddy & various other things the property of Samuel Saunders that about three weeks ago he purchased of John Pateman a Hat for 3d and also a Tea Caddy for 9d that a hat now produced by Samuel Sanders is the same he bought of John Pateman & which this informant had delivered to said Samuel Sanders the said Hat having been claimed by Samuel Sanders as being that stolen from him. That he bought the said Hat & Tea Caddy about five or six o'Clock in the evening he was standing near the workhouse Gate when John Pateman offered to sell him the Hat, which Pateman then had on his head. That the workhouse is about thirty yards from Pateman's house. That Pateman said he had also a Tea Caddy to sell & he went and fetched the caddy from his House & sold it as before stated."
