Scope and Content
Regular business includes the purchase of Communion bread & wine, cleaning of church, clerk's dues, visitation & confirmation expenses, ringing, purchase of candles & coal, Sunday School expenditure. Accounts 1836-1853 kept in meticulous detail by John Lavender, churchwarden.
Occasional expenditure includes the following:
1836 "Pd. Hutchins for keeping the boys quiet in the gallery in time of service in the church" 5s
1837 Repairs to church under Archdeacon's order. "Mrs Gore mending & Mrs. Greene Dying the pulpit cushions" 7s 3½d
1839 Green carpet for the altar.
1841 Paid West for "Extra cleaning church at the visit of the Rural Dean". Annual subscription to infant sch. commences. (£6 p.a.)
1844 Repairs to church
1845 Helping the blacksmith to remove & repair the stove.
1846 Plumbers refixing casement over Mrs. Grimshaw's pew.
1847 "Pd. Mr. Wing placing the commandments" £4 8s
1848-9 "West as Constable getting bills printed & posted offering a reward on having the church window broken" 2s 6d Do. Mr Lawrence 4s
1849 Pd. Wm. Golding, treasurer of the Infant School fund £15 towards erection of school house.
1850 Lowering the weather vane on the steeple
1851 Tom Clifton keeping boys in order in the church. 1 year £1.
1852 Tolling the bell for the late Duke of Wellington.
1853 Repairs to clock.
1854 Looking glass for Vestry.
