Reads- Poor Roberts' misfortune; perhaps serious consequences; he was ill provided with information. He did not appear to want anything but "to see John". He had been to the Woburn coach office but would not go when he heard it was 40-50 miles - he seemed to thing he should see Hitchins in or near London. I advised him to go by the rly. to Leighton & hire gig or chaise-cart to Abbey & he set off to do this. I sent the office-porter with him, who saw him safe in the carriage & gave directions to the guard to look to him & see he was set down at Leighton. I thought him a very old man to be sent so great a distance. I hope he will not have a serious illness.
