- TitleLetter regarding possible rioters / raiders and / or fire raising
- Date free text13 Nov 1830
- Production dateFrom: 1830 To: 1830
- Scope and ContentReads- Your distressing news. It is afflicting to think that this disgraceful & dangerous course seems about to spread all over England; had it at Kingston & in Middlesex - no trace of perpetrators - must be stopped; no way except continual guard & pursuit on alarm. Grievous for farmers' & labourers' rest to be lost, but what other way? System of sharing? Have both dogs & geese in stackyard; horse ready saddled & man armed for pursuit. Keepers of p.h.s. should notice late-comers with gigs or horses; so should toll-gate keepers. The incendiaries must bait or stay all night somewhere. Have the [fire] engine always ready to start. Duke agrees about giving employment where possible. Letters to Tween & Swansborough. Mill: water v. wind?
