  • Admin/biog history
St.Andrew's was a chapel of ease of All Saints rather than a living in its own right. The file seems to have been kept by John Daniels, who led the opposition campaign. The church was at first temporarily closed due to a burst boiler which the PCC felt would be too expensive to repair. The PCC then took the decision to close St.Andrew's permanently and demolish it, despite vocal opposition by a proportion of the congregation, who felt that the closure was not carried out for the best of reasons.
  • Scope and Content
The papers include: -accounts for both churches for 1963; -a photograph of the interior looking towards the altar; -letters of support for St.Andrew's; -correspondence with Bishop of St.Albans; -legal advice. [see also ABV 40, P 91/2/46 and 59]
