The Bedfordshire Rural Nursing Association was formed in 1897 following a conference of 'County Lady Representatives' in connection with the Technical Instruction Committee of the County Council held on 2nd December 1896. The aim of the association was to provide trained nurses throughout the villages of Bedfordshire, and with this object to encourage the formation of Nursing Districts throughout the county. The name of the Association was changed to the Bedfordshire County Nursing Association in late 1919 the work of the association having been extended into Urban as well as Rural Districts and being recognised by the County Council and the Ministry of Health as the County Nursing Association.
