    i) The Rev Thomas Sikes of Luton ii) William Clarke of Luton, innholder and John Brett of the Dallow Farm, Luton, farmer, churchwardens of Luton Reciting grant by George Rotherham of Someries of an annuity of £4 out of a messuage called Lawleys in trust to repair the parish church and steeple of Luton by deed poll dated 22 April 22 Eliz. I (1580); said deed has been lost or destroyed, but said annuity has been paid by the Marquess of Bute to the Churchwardens from time immemorial; the said messuage cannot be well identified or distinguished Whereas on 1 October 1847 the said Marquess put up certain property with three cottages (since pulled down) for sale by auction, subject to the said annuity; and the premises were bought by Samuel Lane of Luton, wheelwright, for £140 at the auction, but then agreed to sell the same to Thomas Sikes, who purchased from trustees of the Marquess on 28 Sept. 1848 - parcel of ground in Church Street, Luton, bounded on the north east by Church Street, on the north west by cottages belonging to Richard How, and on the south east and south west by messuages of ii) Whereas i) has pulled down the three cottages, once occupied by John Wesley, Sarah Salter and Moses Leeper and built two other messuages on the site NOW Covenant by i) to pay to ii) £4 annually on Old Michaelmas Day in perpetuity, such annuity to be always payable out of the premises [Clauses concerning non-payment and powers of distress and entry] Endorsed: Certificate of enrollment in Chancery, 9 Jan.1849 Witnesses: George Bailey and Joseph Everitt, Clerks to Frederick Chase, solicitor, Luton; Edward Williamson, solicitor, Luton, and F.
