Articles of Agreement between Henry Bates, Thos. Sayell, Jos. Cook, Jn. Carpenter, Thos. Goodman, Jn. Barnard, Jn. Tompkins, Thos. Carpenters, Jn. Bonnick, Mary Stevens, Sarah Baldwin, Hannah Ault, Robert Bellgrove, George Bellgrove, all of Heath and Reach in Leighton Buzzard, Beds., landowners and landholders of land in Heath and Reach on the one part, and Thomas Lane Wood, Leighton Buzzard, gent. on the other part. reciting that in Heath and Reach there are 3 open and common fields called the Middle Field, the North Field and Sow Mead Field, which from time immemorial have been regularly and in succession called the Wheat Field, the Bean Field, and the Fallow Field, and managed accordingly, and that this method has not yielded the profit there would be if they were in 4 fields, thus each being fallow once in 4 instead of once in 3 years, Agreement dividing the fields into four, with regulations for their management, including permission to plan turnip seed and potatoes. 13 signatures, 2 marks.
