    Longmires propose to visit us on their way back from Westmorland. Thomas was invited to go with them. I have resigned my offices, because of age and declining health. Jane and Mr Gorham's travels in Cornwall. Mr. G. finds the people very pugnacious - they resist the introduction of a hymn book, and make it very troublesome to collect rent charges. Samuel is well and hard at work.
