- Scope and ContentEliz. Martyn, wife of the Revd Thomas Martyn, rector, bur. 1 Aug 1831 aged 32. Am sending by Miss Wade. Theological argument about being of Christ. "As to Thomas, he has been sadly exposing himself by an unadvised offer to Miss Day, the sister of her he used so scrubbily, which has exposed him to a peremptory refusal. He was so nettled at this that he set off in a hurry to London, which I suppose gave rise to the curious report you mention, but which happily is quite groundless" Letter from Mr Longmire with news of the death of his eldest son in a very emaciated state. Mr. Robinson, who is now vicar of L. Staughton, had two overflowing services. People flock to hear him. Poor Pertenhall church. Prayers twice, and not one scrap of a sermon nor even a homily. The cholera is now at St Ives only 7 miles from the Gorhams. Love to dear Rhoda and Miss Curtis.
