- Scope and ContentReads- Charges; journey to Harrold; County Chronicle advertisement. Yesterday I receive a letter directed to me as town clerk desiring I would call a meeting of the town to petition H.M. to continue his ministers; sent under title of 'Friends of the constitution'. Mayor called about Hawes' charity. We conversed much. He said if a meeting was called, he would sacrifice his own principles out of gratitude to Duke & would do all he could to bring corporation over. Possibility of rival petitions (to continue & remove ministers); said I hoped to see meeting avoided; he agreed. Mayor behaved so well, I am in hope all things will come round again shortly
