- Scope and ContentFrom: J.Jupp of Mowbray House, Great Malvern [Worcestershire]; To: Sworder & Longmore, Hertford "Your Mr.Sworder will no doubt remember me when I say that I resided at Ware some years ago. My object in writing is to ask a few particulars about The Luton Brewery which I see is to be sold by Auction on the 25th of this month. I am looking out for a Brewery having sold one I had at Tewkesbury about a year sinve and think the Luton business may suit me. Can you tell me the trade done in beer per year for the last 3 years, in barrels & money and the amount of the sales of wines, spirits & mineral waters for the same period. How much of the trade is tied & how much free. The amount paid for beer duty. Whether the Brewery can be treated for privately. Any other information you think may be useful which I should treat as strictly confidential. I thought if I had these few particulars I could tell whether it would be any use me going to Luton which is some distance from here. It may be a larger concern than I could undertake alone and you may know of someone who would like to join me".
