  • Scope and Content
Reads- Tithes at Ridgmont; told Pares I would write & state matter as fairly as I could. Tenant had notice 1793 to quit; told him I should raise him £20 (i.e. to £160 per annum); he had complained to my father-in-law Abney many years ago & got it reduced. Repairs required. I employed Shaw of Woburn to estimate; asked Fairey to let him have timber. Repairs not done. Shaw's estimate for materials & workmanship £72. Decided to sell. If Duke wants tenants, must do Millard the justice to say that in 13 years he has never failed to have rent ready; sober, honest, industriously, though slovenly; I could recommend a tenant who would be glad to give £60 per annum for farm & repair at own expense.
