Letter to Miss L Johnson from 17928 F W Wiles, B Company, 3rd Battalion the Bedfordshire Regiment [medal roll at National Archives, Kew, ishows him as Frederick Wiles], Landguard Camp, Felixstowe. Cannot give her any news concerning Percy Gambriel as didn’t see him after they went over the top. ‘.. a fellow who came back wounded with me told me he was wounded it was as you said he got one in the foot & then one in the head. The fellow said he wouldn’t come back with him he tried to persuade him to but he wouldn’t so he had to leave him where he was as he was losing a lot of blood’. Mentions that L/Cpl Chillery of Elstow was killed [17776 Richard Frank Chillery, 2nd Bedfords, killed 25 September 1915] and that Miss Johnson’s sister Vendya [sic?] knew him
