  • Scope and Content
From: Edward Tewson of Debenham, Tewson, Farmer & Bridgewater, auctioneers, surveyors and land agents of 80 Cheapside, London EC To: Thomas Joseph Sworder of Hertford "Sworder's Brewery I have the pleasure to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 2nd inst confirming the telegram which I received from you yesterday Mr.Thomas Sworder telegraphed me yesterday: - "Referring to question in your letter must adhere to arrangement made yesterday". This refers especially to the question of Mr.Sworder having power to nominate a Director. I enclose a copy of a letter I have this morning received from Mr.Thomas Sworder shewing, I think, how anxious Mr.Green is, and leading me to hope that he will give our price and probably not make much difficulty about the Directorship. I quite agree with you that any mortgage should be for a term of years. Mr.Green is almost certain to form a Company and if he does so Mr.Sworder must have the option of transferring the mortgage into irredeemable Debenture stock or, if the Debentures are to be redeemable this must be some years forward. I also enclose copy of telegram I have this morning received from Mr.Peyer who you will see is at Portsmouth. I have sent a copy of this to Mr.Thomas Sworder and have told him that I think it reasonable we should wait Mr.Peyer's return so as to have a decision on Monday next. Do you not think it would be desirable if I could get an appointment with Mr.Peyer that you and Mr.Thomas Sworder should be in London so as to be able to dispose at once of any question that may arise on my meeting Mr.Peyer? Please wire me as to this to-morrow (Thursday) morning and, perhaps, you will telegraph Mr.Thomas Sworder & ascertain whether he can meet me. I will then ask Mr.Peyer to make an appointment and doubtless Mr.Green will be in London so that he may, on his part, be ready to dispose of the matter".
