John Buckler (1770 - 1851) was a topographical artist who was articled as an architect and later practised in London until 1826, when he went over completely to perspective drawing. He issued aquatint engravings of colleges, cathedrals, etc. 1797 - 1815 and exhibited in water-colours at the Royal Academy, 1796 - 1849. His son John Chessell Buckler (1793 - 1894) shared his father's enthusiasm for sketching and published a number of books - mainly prints of churches, schools, etc. and descriptions of buildings and places of architectural interrest. For further information see Dict. of English Architects by H.M.Colvin, 1954.
