- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford “I have paid £50 to Sharples’ here to be placed to your account at Hertford. I am sorry I could not pay it sooner but money has been awkward to get in. The Brewery rent I have no doubt will be sent next week. Mr W Anstee died last Friday and he was not here last Monday. If I were you I should not go to any expense in putting up the Cennen Tower property by auction this summer but try to sell it by private contract. I saw the Scotchman who wanted to hire the farm some years ago. He is now doing too well where he is to move at present. I certainly think £1000 sufficient for you and the Lessers’ Int in the Rising Sun. Did you sell the King’s Arms subject to the tenant’s interest – it appears Mr Bailey got you to sign notices with the intention of doing the tenant out of his compensation. All the tenant asks is that he shall be paid such a sum so that he may not be a loser by being turned out without a chance of getting a return of the money he invested in the house in goodwill and fixtures drawn only a year ago.”
