(i) H.O.Roe of Weston [Hertfordshire], gentleman
(ii) Mary Hindley of Baldock [Hertfordshire], widow
(iii) H.O.Roe, Rev.A.W.Chatfield, vicar of Stotfold, William Vaughan and Samuel Bowman of Stotfold, farmers
The persons in (iii) to stand possessed of the sum of £2,500 transferred to them in 3% consols by H.O.Roe and £200 transferred to them by Mary Hindley for the following trusts:
- income from £630 in consols: a sum not exceeding £1/18/- to be used for purchase of prayer and other books and writing materials for the use of poor children attending Stotfold School; residue to be paid twice a year, in addition to his salary, to the master teaching the poor children; schoolmaster and children to attend divine service at Stotfold church every Sunday throughout the year;
- income from £1,200 consols: trustees to pay ¾ of income to poor widows and married couples occupying the 6 almshouses according to their necessities, regard being had to their health and ability to work and subject to them keeping the almshouses in tenantable repair; to lay out the remainder in coals, bread, blankets or necessitous articles to be distributed amongst the widows and married couples. No more than 2 widows or one married couple should be appointed at any one time to live in the almshouses; all widows and married couples to attend divine service every Sunday unless prevented by sickness or infirmity, upon pain of being removed;
- income from £520 consols: trustees to buy eighteen 4d. loaves of bread weekly to be carried to the church and given after divine service every Sunday to 18 poor persons in most constant attendance or otherwise reputable and moral characters;
- income from £150 consols: for repair of a cottage in Frog End, Stotfold, purchased by H.O.Roe for use of parish clerk; residue to be paid to parish clerk for his own use and benefit;
- income from £200: to be paid at Christmas to 12 individuals occupying the church almshouses to promote their cheerful and sober enjoyment of the holy season
Endorsement: a further sum of £300 consols was purchased by H.O.Roe on 16 May 1843: one third to be paid to almshouses occupants and two thirds to go to the aid and maintenance of the National School now being erected in Stotfold by virtue of a conveyance of 14 Mar 1843 [see P83/25/37]
