- Scope and ContentFrom: Thomas Sworder, Cottered Warren [Hertfordshire]; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I received the guarantee on Friday. I tried Mr.Bigg about allowing the old one to remain but he said it was the wish of the Directors that a fresh note & fresh guarantee should be substituted for the old. He says part can be paid off at any time & rebate of Int allowed and for one thing it is better, it is safe for one year. I hope & trust trade & the better getting in of money next year will enable me to reduce it for your sake as well as my own. The reason Chesshyre wanted the cheque, initialled by Sharples was in consequence of my asking him to send it to Luton & not to pay it into your account that day. It was paid into my account at Luton I find. Had it not been sent to Luton, he would have taken the cheque without any difficulty. I am returning to Luton today. I called at the office on Saturday on my way here & got your address. I hope Aunt is better for the change. It appears John & George are not great cousins & have not been for some time entirely arising from John's taking up with Mickley so much. Perhaps there will be an alteration for the better now John has married, they call Mickley John's wife. I quite intended writing to you on Saturday but I got here so late & was so dreadfully tired & bilious that I could not manage. What with Bile & diarrhoea I have not been so queer for more than a year. This hot weather does not suit me. Lucy is but not so well".
