The factory in Brook Street was originally built by Herbert 'Turby' Gentle, who made drain covers there. Coleman took it over between 1936 and 1939, transferring his business from Letchworth. At this time the company was known as Coleman Foundry Equipment Co Ltd. Coleman is reported to have sold the business to Mr Anderson some time before 1945 however the Coleman name remained on the literature and the business became part of the J. Stone Group of companies as Coleman-Wallwork Co Ltd by 1950. The factory closed in 1959 and the machinery was transferred to the Oldham factory. The factory employed about 60 people. It made machinery for foundries and other tools for industry. [Information from directories, the collection and 'Stotfold Reflections']
