- Scope and ContentFrom: John Sworder, Dowlais Brewery; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "I heard from Tom this week and he tells me that you have been suffering from Bronchytis [sic]. I am very sorry to hear that you have been so unwell and suppose I must attribute that as an excuse for your not having written lately. I too have been on the sick list for the last week also having (as I presume you have heard) had an attack of smallpox. It was very slight but the fever has left me very weak. I had not altogether fifty pustules. Yesterday & today I have had a walk which with the present fine weather will I trust soon bring us both round again. Tom does not state anything as having been done decisively further than that Robert has left him to settle everything and dispose of the place as he may think fit. I am much obliged to you for the Corporation Paper. Trade still creeps on very languidly but everything tends to better times & it is expected that a "rise" in wages will take place after the next pay which will be in the first week of April. I shall be very glad to hear from you when you can find time to write & hope to be able to see you when I am up to Easter".
