  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To; Thomas Sworder, Hertford "When I returned home on Saturday evg I found the enclosed letter from Mr.Bigg & on seeing him today I find the Directors are determined that my account shall be considerably reduced by the 30th inst. except I can produce someone who is willing to join me at once with sufficient capital. Mr.Bigg says that the Directors consider I have placed myself in a worse position by taking the other Brewery without any further floating capital & that they are determined not to supply money for carrying it on. Mr.Bigg thinks the Directors would be satisfied with £2000 or so being paid off but independent of this I shall require some money to settle at Michas with Burr's exors. I see Mr.Moss has put another advt in todays' paper for a partner with £20,000. I hope it will have the desired effect. It may be some time before a partner is found & this state of uncertainty so unhinges me that I do not feel at all in heart to make arrangements for taking possession on the 29th. I shall be glad to have your advice, and perhaps you & aunt will be able to come over & stay a few days. We can arrange for Fanny & the children either here or at Dunstable if you should bring them. We have 2 spare beds. From the enclosed letter you will see that the supplies are cut off both here and at Hertford. I hope Chesshyre has paid the amount - think he has been very crusty lately & not inclined to let John accommodate me in any way that he can avoid".
