  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "On referring to our Bankers Book I find that John did not pay in the cheque I gave him on Saturday week until last Saturday. It was quite by chance I happened to see John as I did he was just off to Ware to dine with Uncle John when I gave him the cheque. I certainly might just as well have paid in the money myself. I have today agreed to sell one of the Beerhouses purchased of Gray called the Volunteer & two cottages adjoining for £200 the sum we gave for them. I thought it was a good thing to get rid of them at cost price as the Beerhouse is not sufficiently rated & would require a large outlay to make it so. They must be now rated at £15 there being more than 10,000 inhabitants in the Town. We are to continue supplying the House so long as it is kept open by the present Tenant. I can either pay you off £300 or deposit other deeds with you just what you would like best. The purchase is to be settled on the 26th March
