  • Scope and Content
From: Thomas Sworder, Luton; To: Thomas Sworder, Hertford "The £12.9.5 which you have paid into the London & C bank to our account, I will transfer to the Westmill account. I send you a receipt for it on a separate paper. I return you Parfitt's Bill as it has been so long due I am ashamed to own it. I suppose it must be yours as Parfitt never made me frock coat & it is now a long time since he made me a dress coat. I never had but one frock coat & that I only wore a few times. Charles now wears it as a great coat. I had a letter from Cornwell a day or two since he said he had been trying to find a purchaser for his Farm, but had failed in doing so as the parties he asked wished to see the result of Free Trade upon the price of land. He wishes that it may not be sold for another year. He is willing to pay 5 per cent on any reasonable price which might be given for it. The Cottage at Chipping would be as well sold as we get no rent. If you think there is any chance of selling Throcking at a fair sum that also might be put up at the same time. It might be slated that 2/3rds of 3/4ths of the money might remain on mortgage which would perhaps be a consideration for some parties. I will send you John & George's Deed as soon as the business is settled. I should be glad of the remainder of their shares if you have as much in the Exors account. I would then at once settle the purchase. Mr.Medland has been to Grantchester this week. he is settled to be hung up the last week in April".
