James Patterson Perkins trained as a decorator and bookbinder. Initially working from his home address of 40 Cavendish Street, where he is listed with his family in the 1891 Census, he moved the business to Tavistock Street prior to 1900. The business passed to his son Francis John Perkins, and then to his grandson Thomas James Perkins. The business closed in 1982 and the records were deposited at BLARS by Elizabeth Ann Ayres, daughter of Thomas James Perkins.
