    Trust deed (bargain and sale) 1) Richard Brugis of Kensworth, Herts., gent., and Mary his wife 2) Benjamin Topham of Kensworth, clerk Henry Howard of Caddington, Herts., gent. William Howard of Beaumont Hall, Redbourn, Herts., gent. Joseph Howard of Kensworth, gent. Thomas Howard of Caddington, gent. Samuel Parkins of Kensworth, tailor. Reciting Indentures of Lease and release, 13/14 July 1743 i) Anne Goodes of Markiat Street, Caddington, Herts., (widow and relict of Jasper Goodes, her deceased husband), John Goodes of Markiat Street, butcher (brother and heir at law of Jasper Goodes), and Elianor his wife ii) Richard Whiteley of Shortsgrove, Totternhoe, gent. Consideration: £63 paid by ii) to i) being the preper money of Martha Whiteley, wife of ii), i) confirmed to ii):- - all that piece or close of Inclosed land in Crawley Field, Caddington, Herts., (2a.) then in occ. of John Goodes. Abutting north-west on the close of Thomas Birchmore, and adjoining Bass Lane Whereas Richard Whiteley did agree that the said Martha Whiteley should have power to settle the rents and profits of the land on the poor widows and other poor people of the parish of Kensworth and the yearly rents etc. should be divided amongst them forever on the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. Whereas the said Martha had in her lifetime given orders for settling the same but died before her said intent was carried into execution, and the said Richard Whiteley is long since dead without disposing of the said dues and premises. And whereas Mary Whiteley., spinster, surviving child, daughter and heir at law of Richard Whiteley is also dead, but did by her last will and testament dated 4 April 1753 devise (amongst other things) to 1) all her freehold messuages, lands and tenements, and did make 1) her residuary legatees and executors of the said will, and 1) being desirous to fulfil the intention of the said Martha NOW Consideration: 5s. apiece paid by 2) to 1), 1) grant to 2) - all the aforesaid close or piece of arable land in Cawley Field Caddington (2a.) now in occ. of George Crokey as tenant to 1), with appurtanances. To hold to 2) in trust to pay rents and profits (after deduction of costs) to Trustees, to be distributed among such and so many of the poor widows and other people as the Trustees shall think proper as a free gift and Charity yearly on Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle. New Trustees to be appointed whenever the number falls to three, from so many other substantial inhabitants of Kensworth or some other substantial inhabitants of Studham and Caddington, to make up together with surviving trustees seven in number, and to execute such deeds and conveyances as may be necessary etc. endorsed: Acknowledgment of deed by Richard Brugis before a Chancery Master, 29 May 1754; Note of Enrollment in Chancery, 11 June 1754 Witnesses: Fr.
