He purchased 6oz of mustard from Ann Squire, wife of George Squire of Girtford, and gave her notice that he would have the mustard analysed by Doctor Stevenson. His report stated that the mustard contained foreign ingredients i.e. 25% wheaten flour and a minute quantity of turmeric
