Kennytt of Eaton Soken, gent., Jane Mawde of London, widow, Winifred Sam[m], Ann Westrop, Margt. Chambers, Ann Sheffield, Sarah Willowes, all of Clifton, widows, Thos. Oliver alias Swinglehurst, Jn. O. alias S., Francis Mannyng, of C., yeomen, Isaac Berry (s. of Thos. B., yeoman, decd.). Sam. Berry (s. Jn. B. of C., y., decd.), Wm. Sheffield (s. Mich. S., etc.), Arthur Henstocke, cordwainer, Mordecai Randall, blacksmith, Geo. Parker, husbdn., Geo. Palmer, husbdn., Margt. Bray, Ann Tingey, Frances Hawnex, all of C., widows, Eliz. Berry, Agnes Randall & Eliz. Randall, all of C., spinsters, Wm. Pizeley, weaver, & Eliz. his wife, Rob. Dillye, Thos. Briscoe, Jos. Arnold & Wm. Suresby, all of C., labourers, & Rose Thredder of C., widow; and Walter Rolt of Clifton, esq., & Wolstan Dixie of Normanton (co. Derby), esq. The first parties grant permission to W.R. & W.D. & their heirs to enclose at all times of the year for ever Shefford Peece, cont. 10ac., lying in the common fields near Shefford townes end; 1 ac (late Wm. Cumberland) adjoining; 6 other "lands" of the said Wal. Rolt's adjoining the lac.; a piece of land in the same field called Bakerswick adjg. W. Rolt's Clayclose, cont. 8 ac.; discharged from right of pasturage by the 1st parties. In return, W.R. & W.D. agree to ditch & quickset Gallowe Peece in Hitchin Field with 1 ac. adjg. (late Jn O. alias S.), & lac. adjg. the highway there (late Wm. Buckbye), which are to remain greensward for ever. The 1st parties also grant permission to W.R. & W.D. to enclose Twelve Acres Peece in East Field, (now in possn. of Edw. Berry) & 8 ac. of Englands Peece adjg. In return, W.R. & W.D. agree to ditch & quickset Sallowbush Peece in Shefford Field & 2 ac. adjg., to remain greensward. [Moduses for tithes on these small areas fixed]. W.R. & W.D. agree to keep not more than 3 sheep for every acre of land which they have in fallow ("which number is one more per acre then the several tenants ... may keep by the auncyent rates & stints of the said towne"), nor more cow, bullocks or horses "then proporcionably other tenaunts may keep".
