    15 April 1738 1) William Linford, 2) Henry Robins. Bargain and sale from 1) to 2) - cottage in the occupation of William Linford his assigns or undertenants. Consideration £90 8 May 1771 Henry Robbins devised by his will cottage in Clophill wherein he then dwelt to his son John Robbins & Mary his wife for their natural lives subject to certain legacies then to heirs of John Robbins and Mary his wife in default of such issue to his son Henry Robbins and Ann the testators daughter, the wife of William Chapman of Hitchin, equally then to heirs and assigns of daughter Ann Chapman. Proved 9th April 1772 Session 1808 48 George 3 31st Mary 1826 Inclosure Act for Clophill allotted to William Chapman 'All that parcel of Land contg 1a 2r 5p in the Common Meadow bounded on the West by the Turnpike road leading from Silsoe to Clophill on the North by an Allotmt to the representatives of Thomas Brooks on the East by an allotmt to Fredk Gostelow & on the South by an allotment to the Trustees of Clophill Church Land.' The fences on East & South to be made and kept in repair by the owners of this allotment. Ann Chapman died 1820 leaving William Chapman of Hitchin her eldest son who thereupon entered into possession of the property at Clophill which he retained until his death in December 1848. 24 August 1844 William Chapman by his Will and after certain legacies to his wife and an annuity to her charged on certain premises in Back St Hitchin gave all his real and personal estate and effects to his nephew Thomas Chapman of Arundel St, Strand (now of 23 New St, Spring Gardens) London and his friends John Whiting of Hitchin Felmonger & George Groom of Hitchin Draper in trust for the use and benefit of his brother Michael Chapman and all his nephews & nieces sons and daughters of his late brother Thomas Chapman of Richmond and of his said brother Michael Chapman to be equally divided between them. If they could not agree in the division & partition then trustees empowered to sell after the expiration of six months from his decease. 21 December 1848 William Chapman the testator died 9 March 1849 William Chapman's will proved 31 July 1851 1) Thomas Chapman, John Whiting and George Groom, 2) Ann Chapman of Hitchin widow, 3) Charles Brightman of Silsoe, Bricklayer, 4) Samuel Taylor of Silsoe, wheelwright & James Pearce of Silsoe, stoneworker, 5) George Low Stevens of Clophill, carpenter & builder. recites entitlement and will of William Chapman. 1) offered for sale by auction certain of the testators estates and formed Lot 6. Charles Brightman became purchaser of lot 6 at £115 for and on behalf of himself and 4). - allotment or piece of land containing 1a 2r 5p in Clophill in Common Meadow being then in the occupation of Messrs Fordham or their Undertenants and bounded West by turnpike road leading from Silsoe to Clophill on the north by an allotment to the representatives of Thomas Brooks, East allotment to Fredk Gostelow, South allotment Trustees of Clophill Church Land. Recites decent to William Chapman from Henry Robbins.
