Reports by Sergeant Thomas Vincent stationed at Potton, John Montague Burgoyne of Sutton Park, William Hollis, Inspector of Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Owen Thomas, Veterinary Surgeon, Biggleswade. They reported that John Dew, occupying a farm at Sutton, Tenant of John Montague Burgoyne had kept a bullock in a very bad condition after breaking it's leg. The animal was lying in slings between 2 shafts with bundles of cow cribs round it. It's hind leg was broken and it was in great pain. The steer was not protected from the weather. The off hind leg was broken in 3 places and the bones protruded. The inside of the hole was full of maggots. There was a hole in the stomach with about a quart of maggots. The bones had been broken for about 5/6 weeks. Fined £3.3.0, Costs 11/6
