  • Title
Letter from Pearse & Son to Mr. Vincent Wallis, of Wootton deputed acting trustee of the Wootton Charity Estates. Writes that the new Charity deeds [?1818] are at length complete and 'we send them to you herewith' to deposit in the Church chest; that it will be better, though not absolutely necessary, for all the trustees to sign by the vacant seals [see X740/21] as opportunity may offer; that they enclose their account which far exceeds any estimate we could have formed of it in the early stages of the business, and if the whole were to be paid, the charity would suffer severely'; that, with these considerations, 'we beg to say that all we have done in the business shall be gratuitous and we will only call upon the Trustees for repayment of £130 which we have actually advanced to our agents for their disbursements and attendances'; that they have received £49 10s. towards this sum leaving a balance still due of £78 10s. Watermark 'G.PIKE 1816'. A bill for the period 1816-1819, and possibly divorced from this letter is to be found in the parish deposit for Wootton (see P3/25/9).
