    Abstract of Title of the Manor of HAWNES. ( Recites deeds from 1612 to 1667).* (Note.- This abstract recites several important deeds, rectorial e.g. relating to the tithes from Hawnes Park, to the Manor of Franklyns (both p. 3) to Humpreys Wood (p.4), to the Manor of Hawnes Woodend (p. 5), & to the ' late Chappell, Lordshipp or manor of St. Macute in Hawnes, Wilshamsted & Cardington' (p.7). there is however little topographical detail.) 9 pp. (see also 1046) Extract from 'The Title of Hawnes in Bedfs. belonging to Sr. Geo: Cartaret' (In Country Record Office, Shire Hall Bedford, Catalogue Mark: A.D. 1027). 1669. '14 January 18 Car. 2d. By Indenture tripartite betweene Sir Samuell Luke, Knight, Dame Eliz. his wife & Oliver Luke Esqr. Sonn and heire apparent of Sir Samuell of 1st parte, Sir Thomas Soame, Knight, & Francis Fryer Esqr.* of the 8d. parte, the honorable William Montague Esqr., Attorney Generall to the Queen, Sir Thomas Crew, Knight, John Brisbane, Esqr. & Alexander Westlack, Gent., of the 3d. part. After recytall of an Indenture bearing date the 16th May in the 21th yeare of King James wherein Robert Morgan Did betake Lett & to farme lett unto Charles Ventrye Esqr. All that late Chappell Lordshipp or Mannor of St. Macute in the parishes of Hawnes Wilshamsted and Cardington in the County of Bedford with the lands and appurtenances thereunto belonging. And all woods underwoods & trees whatsoever growing on the premisses for the terms of 98 yeares 11 months & 3 weekes from the Feast of Phillipp and Jacob the Appostles before the date of the same Indenture in such mannor and forme and under such yearely rents as in the said Indenture is expressed; which said Interest and estate of the said Charles Ven- trye in the premisses by ????? assignements came to the said Sir Tho- mas Soame and Francis Flyer who by direccion of Samuell Luke, Dame Eliz. his wife and Oliver Luke & by the nominacion of William Montagu & Sir Thomas Crew have assigned & sett over to the said John Bresband & Alexander Westlack All their estate and Interest in the said premisses To hold for the remainder of the said terme of 98 yeares 11 mo. and 3 weekes In trust for the said William Montagu & Sir Thomas Crew to goe along and attend the revercion & Inheritance thereof.'
