    The book contains three acts of parliament bound into the front, these are 'an act for regulating for three years and from thence until the end of the then next session of parliament the care and treatment of Insane Persons in England' 2nd/3rd William IV Cap 107, an amendment act for the above 3rd/4th William IV Cap 64 and and extension act for the two above acts 5th/6th William IV Cap 22. The book then follows a set pattern for each year namely: - Copy of minute from the Quarter Sessions appointing the visitors, who are a number of jps and a doctor. - Copy of minute from Quarter Sessions acknowledging receipt of application and award of licence to John Harris, surgeon, for house in Elstow Road, Kempston (referred to from about 1840 as Springfield) to receive 30 insane persons. - Minutes of visitors, which comment on the health of inmates, and cleanliness and facilities at the Springfield Asylum. Also includes Oath to be taken by visitors, oath to be taken by clerk of the peace, some loose minutes and bills and an annual return of insane persons for the Wellingborough Union, 1846. This last contains details of Sarah Pendered of Wymington aged 50, Ann Wassell of Wymnington aged 50 and Thomas Pettitt of Poddington aged 19. Thomas Pettitt is described as 'recovered'.
