    Letter from James Procter of Leighton Buzzard to Joseph Procter, tobacconist, of 197 Bishopsgate Street Without, on corner of Liverpool Street, London: "I have been thinking how for the best would be to invest my Money have not made my mind up in whol [sic] way yet but for the present I will thank you to buy it in the Funds, at all event I twill be safe there and I can have it out any time, buy it in the New 3 the name of James Procter Saint John St the next stand so put the 100 that lays at your Bankers to it then that will make 800. I am sorry to here [sic] your stocking don't turn out so well as yo uexpected but hope it don't fall off much. I think of coming this Year early to Town then we can make the Bill that I hold right, but if you wish it I will send it before. I am glad to here [sic] the sick list is better John as [sic] been sadly but is better was out with me all Day Yesterday killed nothing, get tired of going. We received a Box to Day with the Bottle and the Cork out but very little worked not more than pint. Tel [sic] the Mother Ned as [sic] settled with the Rail Road People they are to give him 130 per annum for the Top Field and to pay for the Timber and pay all other expences I think there is about 7 or 8 acres. Mr.Willis is drawing up the Deed, when that is ready and approved off [sic] then they will pay him their money. They are very bussy [sic] turning the Wing Road so that it may go under their Road and cutting Old Johny pretty much we are very bussy [sic] at leighton what with Gap works and the Whorthouse the poor men are most of them in Work. I think the poor rates must be reduced allmost [sic] half. There was another bad fire last Saturday Night at Pitston [sic] a little below Witchurch [sic] Burnt down 14 stacks and 5 horses etc. but thank God we are very quiet at Leighton. Hope this will find you all better as it leaves us. Love to all"
