    Abstract of earlier title deeds relating to Fox Public House, Carlton, abstracted by Garrard of Olney, with note that original deeds were with Mr.Cooch of Newport Pagnell [Buckinghamshire] abstracting: (I) Attested copy agreement of 18 Apr 1768 Parties: (1) John Bithrey of Carlton, gentleman and Mary, his wife (previously Mary Boddington, spinster, only child and heir at law of Robert Boddington of Carlton, gentleman, deceased); (2) Charles Bithrey of Carlton, gentleman; William Steff of Carlton, lace merchant Operative Part: - to bar all estates tail (1) agreed with (2) that they would levy a fine sur conizance de droit come ceo to (2) of, amingst other things, (a) Property: (a) farmhouse with orchard or pightle and homestead in Carlton in Moor End Street formerly in occupation of Joseph Thomas, now John Emery bounded on one part by house and ground of John Bithrey and Mary, his wife in occupation of Thomas Maudlin, on other by house and ground of Thomas Barringham, then of John Haimach and by common street to W; Habendum: - to use of (1) for his life, to use of Mary Bithrey for her life, to use of heirs of (1), to use of will of Mary Bithrey (II) Chirograph of fine of Trinity 8 George III between Charles Bithrey and William Steff, plaintiffs and John and Mary Bithrey, deforciants of 5 messuages, 5 cottages, 1 toft, 15 acres of land, 5 acres of meadow, 10 acres of pasture and common of pasture for all cattle with appurtenances in Carlton and other places (III) Mortgage of 19 Sep 1791 Parties: (1) William Steff of Carlton, gentleman and Sarah, his wife; (2) Edward Lambert of Olney [Buckinghamshire], victualler Operative Part: - (2) lent 250 at 4.5% interest to (1) on security of, amongst other things, (a) Property: (a) cottage being a public house called Fox with orchard or pightle and homestead belonging in Moor End Street, Carlton in occupation of John Emery then of Allen Church Indorsed with note of repayment of 45 on 20 Oct 1795 (IV) 20 Jul 1799 Parties: (1) William Steff and Sarah, his wife; (2) Edward Lambert; (3) William Watkins of Bedford, coal merchant Reciting: - (1) levied a fine sur conizance de droit come ceo to (3) in Trinity 27 George III of 2 messuages, 2 cottages, 1 toft, 1 shop, 4 barns, 4 stables, 4 gardens, 4 orchards, 25 acres of land, 3 acres of meadow, 10 acres of pasture and common of pasture for all manner of cattle in Carlton, Chellington and Turvey; - 205 remained outstanding to (2) on mortgage at (III) above Operative Part: - fine of 27 George III to enure regarding all property not conveyed to Mary Mardling to use of (2) for 1,000 years to use of (1) Indorsement noting repayment of 10/11/- from principle sum of mortgage at (III) on 16 Apr 1800 (V) Assignment of Mortgage of 1 Nov 1800 Parties: (1) Edward Lambert; (2) William and Sarah Steff; (3) John Sturgess the younger of Newton Blossomville [Buckinghamshire], yeoman; (4) John Williams of Willen [Buckinghamshire], grazier Operative Part: - (3) paid 200 to (1) and 200 to (2) [making total mortgage between (1) and (3) of 400] secured on, amongst other things, (a) in (III) (VI) Chirograph of fine of Michaelmas 42 George III between John Williams, plaintiff and William and Sarah Steff, deforciants of 3 messuages, 3 cottages, 1 toft, 1 shop, 4 barns, 4 stables, 4 gardens, 4 orchards, 25 acres of land, 5 acres of meadow, 15 acres of pasture and common of pasture for all manner of cattle in Carlton etc.
