'Ardent' man-of-war engaged three frigates and beat them off after two hours, but then two 72 Gunships came down and fought her for an hour, when she surrendered in sight of crowd of thousands on shore at Plymouth. Enemy 66 Ships of the Line and innumerable frigates, seem determined to stand battle. Expected Sir C. Hardy will attack them today or tomorrow. Families fleeting inland in Chaises.
