- TitleAgneta, Mount Pleasant, near Southampton to Baroness Grantham, Newby Hopes that her family is enjoying their time at Newby. She has taken her present residence to be near at hand when her sons Charles and Joseph return, however she has discovered he will not return until August, after her 3 month lease has expired. They wrote from St. Lucia that they are to sail to Antigua on 1 May, and stay there for 2 weeks, then they sail to Jamaica, and from there come back to England. Charles wrote in his letter that he has become an expert seaman and mechanic, and has been drawing. He will bring back chocolate and sweetmeats for her. Asks if she is surprised by Sir Joseph [Yorke's] announcement of his marriage to Lady Boerslaer [?Doerzalaer]. Hopes Lord Hardwicke has recovered from gout in his hand. Asks if Lady Beauchamp had fixed her house at Petersham before she left town. She had intended to journey in her phaeton [open carriage], with a coach behind carrying her servants and pets. It was raining heavily when she awoke at 5am, and she was forced to share the second carriage. She finds the house pleasant, however the views of Southampton are obscured by a high shrubbery.
