They attended an election dinner, for Dumbartonshire and one of Sir James' son's was a candidate. Describes the differences between the English and Scottish election procedure; "For Dumbarton there are only 32 voters, all Gentlemen of respectability and fortune". The next day they went to an island, which gave then an excellent view of Loch Lomond, the surrounding mountains and Dumbarton Rock. They left early next day to secure rooms at Inverary, and they set off for Oban tomorrow.
